Madonsela resolute on Nkandla recommendations
The public protector says her findings stand regardless of what action the SIU takes.
Madonsela was speaking in Sandton earlier today and answered questions about the R155 million law suit which has been launched against president Jacob Zuma’s architect.
The public protector’s report found that Zuma’s family benefited from nearly R250 million in upgrades at his private home and that he should pay back some of the money.
Madonsela says the legal action against the architect is only one part of her recommendations.
“Him being asked to do one thing does not take away from others being asked to do what they have been asked to do.”
She says she is looking forward to the Nkandla matter being finalised.
“How we deal with Nkandla will determine how other organs of state behave.”
The president sent his full response on the scandal to Parliament this afternoon.
In it he says the police minister must now tell Cabinet whether he has to repay any of the money spent on the upgrades.
